Jodi Picoult Helps Make CollegeCandy Survey Go Viral

CollegeCandy launched a two-part feature last month that encouraged women to vote for the most influential public figures in their lives. From serious categories like “most influential activist” to more fun categories like “most influential tween” it was a comprehensive survey that shows America exactly who inspires us on a daily basis. Well-known author Jodi Picoult was so excited to be nominated that she shared the news on her Facebook page. Well, 400,000 Jodi Picoult Facebook fans later we saw our survey numbers quadruple.  It’s never a better feature when a celebrity gets involved. Check out the results here!

Busted Coverage’s Dramatic Unique Visitor Increase For September 2011

Just five months after becoming part of the Coed Media Group, the sports-themed BustedCoverage.com has seen dramatic increases in unique visitors and pageviews. September saw a jump from 1mm (Aug.) to 1.5mm unique visitors thanks in part to our Cam Newton BCS Pants feature story (nearly 500,000 pageviews in Sept.) which was promoted by Playboy.com, Sports Illustrated, several national radio stations and numerous national blogs. The ‘Pants’ story continues to unfold as Newton looks to be on pace for an NFL Rookie of the Year award.

A Jaime Edmondson photo release party for the pants was held in New York just before Labor Day and included nearly 100 social media/Internet players. To say that the Pants has been a success is an understatement. It’s become the site’s identity and given us a platform in which to create partnerships for future projects.

COED Reaches 100,000 Facebook Fans

In November 2010 COED Media Group’s marketing team was tasked with the lofty goal of growing COED Magazine’s Facebook page to 10,000 Fans before year’s end. Considering we were at barely 2500 fans, this task seemed close to impossible. But we live for the impossible here at COED so we set out to making it happen. And we did. We blew past the 10,000 mark within a few weeks. By January 1, 2011 we were already at 15,00 Facebook fans. It’s fair to say that we we were absolutely unstoppable.

Now, one year later, we are proud to announce that we’re at 100,000 Facebook Fans. 100,000! We went from a few thousand fans in late 2010 to becoming one of the top men’s lifestyle/entertainment destinations on the world’s largest social network.

Not only does this mean that we can say we have 100,000 loyal fans, but also that 2012 will be an exciting time for COED Magazine’s Facebook Fans. We will be launching slick new functionality as well as have a renewed focus on producing exclusive content for the page. Become a fan to stay in the loop.

CollegeCandy Teams Up With Rent the Runway

Rent the Runway is the hottest new company on college campuses and we knew as soon as we heard about them that they would make an awesome partner. But we had no idea just how awesome of a partner they would be until we launched our co-branded sweepstakes together (check it out here). In just four days we had over 1500 entries. 1500! I guess we shouldn’t be surprised though…our sweepstakes basket did include products from Starbucks, Kohl’s, Casio, Pureology, DKNY, Redken, OPI and Chegg. I’m tired just typing all that awesomeness. I better get un-tired though because this is just the start of an awesome college fashion relationship. Ahhh, we might be in love.

Following CMG Writers on Twitter is Now Easier than Ever!

We have over 100 talented and social media savvy contributing writers working for us at COED Media Group and it can be exhausting trying to keep with everything they’re doing. That’s why we’ve created the ultimate CMG Writer Twitter list. It’s an awesome way to follow all our writers in one place. Not only does this give our readers a way to stay in touch with their favorite writers, but it also helps us to promote their social media presence.

Win-win for everyone! Check out the list here!

Busted Coverage’s Cam Newton Pants Party – Coming Soon!

Ever made a crazy purchase and then sorta stood there wondering what just happened? Yeah, that was me back in May when $1500 was plunked down on Cam Newton’s BCS game-worn pants from an Auburn University auction. What exactly was I going to do with pants from the Heisman Trophy winner? “What were you thinking,” is the most common question I received. It’s simple, marketing. Thinking outside the box.

Think of all the money spent on marketing teams that develop wild ideas that fail or never produce results. In a matter of days, the Newton pants went from a wild purchase to a marketing tool that has Busted Coverage on the verge of the coolest college football kickoff party you’ll see in 2011.

The Coed Media Group team has taken a simple pair of football pants and developed a storyline that is expected to make huge news days from now in the world of sports media. Playboy Playmate Jaime Edmondson recently modeled the pants and the resulting photos will be published starting August 29.

To us, the money is well spent and will be worth the stories to be told years from now.

Interning for CollegeCandy: A Crash Course In Social Media

http://collegecandy.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/college-intern.jpg?w=505&h=303

I thought I was pretty tech savy before starting my internship at CollegeCandy, I am no stranger to facebook, foursquare and had my own blog. Turns out, I had only skimmed the surface. When I started navigating the CollegeCandy Twitter and working on Tumblr that I realized how mind blowing Social Media is these days. Forget meaningless updates on a celebrity’s non-existent lunch meal, Twitter is all over politics, PR and advertising. It seems, social presence is crucial to professional success and I have started to realize how critical it is to expand my own.

I have heard several stories about college students tweeting their way to internships, making valuable networking contacts or even promoting their start ups through 140 character statements. Talk about efficiency. One of the most important things I’ve learned at my internship this summer is how to work these websites and just how much of the business world has been transformed in this recent phenomena.

CollegeCandy Summer Party!

It’s no secret that we LOVE parties at College Candy. After all, what kind of college blog would we be if we didn’t?? That’s why this summer we decided to throw a blowout bash for all our readers and writers who are in the city for the summer. We teamed up with several of our favorite brands and put together amazing goody bags and raffle prizes for all our wonderful guests. And that’s not all! We gave out free drinks for anyone who tweeted at us and checked in on Facebook places and foursquare. Not too shabby for a Tuesday night.

Check out all the photos here and here.

CollegeCandy is on Tumblr

Over at CollegeCandy we’re all about keeping on top of the latest  trends in social media. That’s why, after we kept hearing the name  “Tumblr” being tossed around among our readers, we finally asked what  was up. As it turns out, Tumblr is a blogging platform that sets  itself apart by adopting the “instant-refresh” dashboard and   abbreviated, multimedia post style of Twitter. Sounds cool, right?  Yeah, we thought so, too.

In fact, we thought it was so cool that we decided we needed one of  our own. That’s why  we introduced our readers to CollegeCandy.tumblr.com. Like that cool older sister who knows the  best gossip, hot topics and music from around the web, and adds in her own snarky two cents, College Candy’s Tumblr is going to be a  behind-the-scenes supplement to our main blog.

Scooping up over 100 followers in the first hour it went live, it’s safe to say CC readers are loving the new addition.

Alex is the content editor at CollegeCandy.com. But first she was an intern for the site. Just a fun fact.
